Butterflies have long been a sign in many cultures. Starting as caterpillars then emerging from cocoons, it makes sense that butterflies would be a sign of rebirth. My first butterfly experience happened on the phone with my friend’s teenage daughter the day he passed away. While talking, I was surprised to see a blue butterfly outside, which I never see where I live. Since it was odd, I mentioned it to her. She said that she was looking at blue butterflies outside her window too. Across the country, we were both seeing blue butterflies while talking about her dad. That was a powerful sign. As sad as I felt, it was comforting too. Like he was free and beautiful after being released from the ravages of cancer. And, it was a sign that he’ll always be around looking after his daughter. Last time I saw her, she couldn’t remember the call, but her mom sure did. Blue butterflies continue to be a sign of him that we share. We reminisce about that call and those blue butterflies and whenever I see a blue butterfly I say, “Hi Jeff” and text his wife.
Butterflies are free to fly

What a beautiful story. Butterflies are not only lovely in flight or just resting but are signs of rebirth, change and spiritually comforting, as you said. I love them all, but my special connection is with yellow butterflies. Thank you for sharing your story. It brought me joy this morning. 😀
Most butterflies I see are yellow or monarch. That’s why the blue one was so unusual. Glad to bring some joy your way.
Heartfelt and beautiful message that was shared!
Thank you! Hope you see a lot of butterflies of all colors today!
So beautifully written and very fascinating 🦋
Thank you! Glad you appreciated this story.
Yes! My grandmother loved butterflies and when she passed there were several dancing around outside the funeral. I don’t think most people got it but I know it was her way of saying hello to everyone. To this day, when I see one, I say hi grandma!
That’s so special that grandma sent you a hello. It’s nice that there are so many butterflies and chances to say hi to grandma.
