For 11 seasons in the 1960s and ’70s, on Saturday nights families gathered around their televisions to watch “The Carol Burnett Show.” At the close of every show, Carol Burnett would sing, “I’m So Glad We Had This Time Together,” followed by a tug on her left earlobe. The ear tug was a sign to her grandmother who raised her. Carol Burnett revealed during an audience question and answer interaction that tugging her ear was a message to her Nanny that meant, “I’m fine. I love you. And the check is on the way!” Even after her Nanny passed away, Carol continued the ear tug when she was on television sending love to her grandmother.
