Out of the blue, a friend texted to say she was thinking of me. She immediately shared that she and her husband went on a hiking trip and provided intricate details about a back country hut trip in high country Colorado. She proceeded to tell me about the ski huts in the remote wilderness and how people cross country ski from hut to hut by following an elaborated network guided by blue diamond signs nailed to trees in winter. I wasn’t sure why she thought of me, but it was interesting and I kept reading. My friend and her husband rented a hut this summer and went hiking and swimming in the alpine lakes. On the second day, they walked to see a lily pond near their hut. On the way back, they took a shortcut and got lost. They were so turned around in the forest that they could not even see the mountains around them — just thick trees. After about three hours of bushwhacking and arguing about which way to go, a butterfly circled my friend, landed on her and wouldn’t leave. It stayed on her shirt for quite a while. She texted, “I instantly thought of you and your blog, and felt calm.” Aw, now I know why she’s sharing this story with me, she saw a sign. Her text continued, “Just when I was about to lose it and ugly cry, I looked up at the trees and saw a blue diamond sign. Farther up I saw another blue diamond sign. We were saved! We followed the blue diamonds back to our hut. I’ve never been lost like that in my life, and I’ve been hiking a long time. I think of the beautiful butterfly and how your blog literally saved me.” What a lovely story of seeing signs!
