The gridiron isn’t a place you’d think to look for ladybugs, but wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers credits one of the colorful little bugs for his team reaching the Super Bowl. At halftime, the NFC Championship game looked like a lock for the Detroit Lions, leading 24-7. But the second half saw the 49ers picking and clawing their way up from the 17-point deficit. Aiyuk ran a long route, the ball was overthrown, it bounced off the facemask of the Lions defender and miraculously Aiyuk kept his eye on the football and made an incredible 51-yard catch contributing to his team’s 31-34 win. In his postgame interview with Erin Andrews, Aiyuk told her, “Before the game, a ladybug landed on my shoe, and y’all know what that means.” They say it’s better to be lucky than good, thanks to the ladybug, Aiyuk and the 49ers were both. The next time I go to a racetrack, I’m going to bring a box of ladybugs with me.
Bring a sack to carry all your winnings too!
