I took an adult class a few years back. On the first night as I was dropping off my backpack to claim my seat, a guy asked if the seat next to mine was taken. I told him it wasn’t, but I needed to make a call and would be right back. When I returned, I apologized for being abrupt and told him I had to congratulate my brother on the birth of his first son, who coincidentally shared the name of my new classmate. I would be able to remember his name. Then I told him my name and he said he would remember mine because it’s the same as his mom’s. Wow, another coincidence! Before the class started, we also discovered he shared my grandfather’s nationality and his birthday (as well as his twin brothers). Were these signs or just coincidences? There seemed to be so many coincidences, we decided to be friends. After all, the first coincidence was that we signed up for the same class. If I wasn’t into seeing signs, I don’t think we would have struck up our conversation and discovered all the things we have in common. One person’s coincidence is another person’s sign. They say good friends are hard to find, I just follow the signs.
