I told my grandmother that I had a job interview, and she recommended I wear red underwear. “What do you think I do for a living?” I asked her. Was I supposed to cross my legs like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct? “It’s not for them, it’s for you to know,” grandma said. I did get the job! That was the first time I heard about the power of wearing red. Italians started wearing red for prosperity on New Year’s Eve during the time of Octavian Augustus and in the Middle Ages the tradition switched to red underwear. Chinese are very fond of wearing red, which represents energy and fire, for celebrations to bring good luck. In 2020, I wore my red jacket and red undies to my friend’s New Year’s Eve party and thought it was going to be a year to remember. Three months later we were all locked down for a global pandemic. I gave red a chance five years ago but didn’t feel compelled to in 2025. Grandma may not approve but I went a different way. Let’s see what happens this year. Happy New Year, friends!
