After my husband died, people started telling me that seeing red birds is a sign from him. I looked it up and it is an old Native American belief that red birds are visits from those who have passed on, symbolizing devotion and loving relationships. We always have had a bird feeder just behind our porch and cardinals were his favorite bird. He would often call to me to come look at the cardinals when he saw them. We had promised each other that whoever passed on first the other would try to leave a sign that they were okay. Now, whenever I see a cardinal, I think of him.
Birds, Cardinals, Loved Ones Lost
Visit from a cardinal

That is such a beautiful experience and cherished memory you share with your Dad. I’ve had bird feeders over the years, but mostly attracted hummingbirds. Birds are a wonderful sight, sing like angels, and I especially enjoy the Eagle in flight. I only see a Cardinal on rare occasions, and their stoic presence give me pause. Messages from loved ones are different for us all and we smile with delight when noticed . . . . Even a new NAPA car battery! 😀
A NAPA car battery—that sounds like a sign with a charge!
Yes, I believe this to be true..i go outside and call for my Uncle Anthony and he shows up as a male red cardinal!
Of all the names I could give a cardinal, Uncle Anthony would not have been on the list. Next time I see a cardinal, I’ll tell Uncle Anthony that you said hello!
I was sitting on my porch this morning talking to my son about being kind to others. A pair of cardinals landed on my feeders at that exact time. I’ll take that as my sign from my loved ones who have passed. ❤️
Sounds like your loved ones who passed are being supportive of you and your son and encouraging kindness. ❤️
My mom always believed red birds were a sign of visiting deceased family and friends. After she passed away we frequently saw a single red bird at the window of her house. To this day I feel like she is checking in when I see a red bird near my porch.
What a lovely way for your mom to check in by sending a red bird your way!
I don’t see red birds where I live now but always feel happy when I see cardinals during my travels. I never knew they were a sign from a loved one who died, I’ll have to start paying attention.
It will be interesting to see if more red birds cross your path.
I had never seen a red cardinal until I moved to US, and when I saw the first I one, a few days after moving into our recently bought house I was delighted! For years I always looked for the red little bird. Then I found the name and heard about the loved ones story. I firmly believe that the first red cardinal I saw was a sign from my grandfather, which we called grandpa fledgling or Abuelo pichon! I loved to look for them and seeing then makes me very happy!!
What a lovely story! Thank you for sharing about Abuelo pichon. I hope you see a cardinal today. 😉
After my very good friend, Andrew, passed away, I told my sister that I had a dream of a red bird. My sister told me that a red cardinal is a sign that someone who has died
will live forever as long as you keep their memory alive. Ironically, the next day, a rare event happened to me that there was a red cardinal in my back yard! I had to call my
sister to let her know. A few days later, I received a package in the mailbox without a return address. Inside was a red cardinal ornament. Come to find out, it was sent to me
by my thoughtful sister who wanted me to have a reminder of my dear friend. To this day, I keep the red cardinal ornament displayed in my living room so whenever I see it, I think of Andrew.
Sounds like your dear friend got a message to your thoughtful sister that you needed comfort. It’s great that you have an ornament to always remind you of Andrew.❤️
