Someone told me that my signs are just superstitions. That person also stood beside me at Trevi Fountain in Rome, handed me a euro and said, “Make a wish and throw the coin over your left shoulder into the fountain.” (And I’m superstitious!) People initially threw money into fountains or wishing wells as an offering to the gods for providing fresh water. Along the way, offerings became personal wishes. I can’t remember my wish that day but tossing a coin into Trevi Fountain means there’s another trip to Rome in my future. I sure hope so. In the meantime, I’m happy that coins tossed into fountains are collected and usually given to charity. In 2019, it was estimated that more than 3,000 euros were tossed into the Trevi Fountain every day. That’s more than $1 million a year going to help poor and homeless people in Rome. The money tossed into wishing wells at Disneyland and other Disney Parks is donated to children’s charities. Even if a wish doesn’t come true, superstitions are paying off.
Tossing coins in a fountain

I made my Trevi Fountain wish 20 years ago and have never made it back. My son and daughter-in-law are planning a trip there this year so I’ll be able to relive it through them vicariously! It’s nice to know the money is put to good use. 😊
Maybe you can be a tour guide for your son and daughter-in-law! I had always wondered what was done with all the coins and was glad it goes to help people.
Oh, this is a good one! I too have tossed a coin in Trevi Fountain, in Rome, and into the Hoover Damn every time I’ve crossed. Tossing coins began with my Dear Aunt explaining the reason for tossing a penny in any body of water, actually. I tossed my first coin on my 5th birthday off a dock into a lake with her, and I’ll continue this coin tossing tradition for as long as I’m on this earth . . . In her loving memory, and I need all the luck I can get! 😀
What a nice memory! Sounds like coins are sign to remember good times with your aunt. ❤️
Little things like this make life special!
Have you tossed in a coin and made a wish?
