Bright yellow leaves surrounding a brown center, the sunflower looks like the sun atop a thick green stalk. Standing tall among flowers, sunflowers start their day facing east and track the sunlight throughout the day, called heliotropism. Sunflowers are a sign for adoration, loyalty, longevity, vitality, intelligence and happiness. Romantically, sunflowers represent faithfulness and unconditional love. Their yellow color also symbolizes friendship. Helen Keller once said, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows. It’s what sunflowers do.” Throughout the day a sunflower has a purpose and intention — like the Beatle once sang — “I’ll Follow the Sun.”
