“St. Anthony, St. Anthony, please come around, something’s lost and can’t be found.” Being raised Catholic, Saint Anthony was called upon on a regular basis. Known as the finder of lost things, he was called Anthony of Padua; however, his given name was Fernando, and he was from Lisbon, Portugal. I didn’t know the story of why St. Anthony was the patron saint of lost things, I assumed it was because he brought lost souls back to the church. However, legend has it that Saint Anthony had a valued printed book of psalms (a psalter) that was taken from him, back in the days when something printed was rare and expensive. St. Anthony prayed and prayed for the book to be found and the person who took it had a scary apparition of St. Anthony, which made him bring back the book and ask forgiveness. If you know a Catholic who has invoked St. Anthony to find something, you have probably heard a success story. Here are two personal favorites. First, when I was vacationing in New York City, I lost my Day Runner Planning Book — this was equivalent to losing a smartphone without a tracker back in the day. Instead of sheer panic, I had a serene feeling that St. Anthony knew where my book was and would lead me to it. And he did. Even the money I had inside was still there — in New York City! Thank you, Saint Anthony! Second, my mother lost her wedding ring at her aunt’s house one New Year’s Day. She asked my dad to hold onto her rings while she helped with the dishes. At some point, my dad took his handkerchief out of his pocket forgetting the rings were there and my mom’s wedding ring wound up on the lawn. After an exhaustive search, and my mom calling for Saint Anthony, the sun set, and the ring was lost. A few months later, my mom’s aunt had a visitor who saw something shiny on the ground, the wedding ring was returned. Maybe St. Anthony doesn’t deliver on every single request, but his track record in my family alone has him in the patron saint hall of fame.

Saint Anthony, Saint Anthony

That’s the truth!! I ask St. Anthony for help which seems like all the time and he shows up for me 🙂 Just recently, that’s how I found my passport!
I have never lost anything because St. Anthony always finds it for me. When something is lost, I call on St. Anthony and say, “St. Anthony, St. Anthony, something is lost and cannot be found.” I immediately say three Hail Mary’s with the intention to say a rosary when the item is found. Yep, St. Anthony always answers my prayers. Thank you St. Anthony!
Love St. Anthony. He always comes around. However, I think he’s taking a break from me. I seem to be asking for a lot of loss things lately! LOL
Also remember to make a promise! ❤️
