A friend wanted to know if it was a special sign when a puppy on a walk with its guardian kept wanting to play with her. At first, I said, “I wouldn’t call it a sign, but a lovely encounter.” But then I thought about it — seeing a sign is in the eye of the beholder and if my friend thought this was a sign, then it was. I asked what made her think that the exchange with the pup was a sign. She said that whenever a dog is overly friendly, she feels like the pup knew her in a previous life and is excited to say hi. Years back, in a group conversation about past lives, someone asked if my BFF and I knew each other in another life and I answered, “Absolutely, she was my family dog.” My BFF understood this was the highest form of praise coming from me and was touched — although everyone else was mortified. Dogs are symbols of strength, loyalty, discipline, protection and love. My friend believed the puppy was trying to make a connection, so perhaps the dog was sending a message that my friend is loved and not alone in whatever she may be going through right now. Whether there’s deeper symbolism or just that the puppy really, really liked her, it’s a nice sign.
