After her divorce, my friend had to reenter the job market after 10 years of being a stay-at-home mom. During her job search, my friend was excited about an editor position at the Vegetarian Times Magazine. Not only was she qualified for the position, but she was also a subscriber and practicing vegetarian. During this time, she needed a new blender and decided to get a used one from Craig’s List. There were several blenders listed, so she selected one and went to pick it up. The woman selling the blender told my friend that she was moving in with her boyfriend and they didn’t need two blenders. My friend relayed that she just broke up with her husband, which is why she now needed one. While they were chatting, the woman selling the blender told my friend that she worked for Vegetarian Times and my friend mentioned that she had just applied for a job there. While walking away from the transaction, my friend had a hopeful feeling that everything was going to be okay for her. She took all those coincidences as a sign. What were the odds that in a huge city like Los Angeles, with all of those blenders on Craig’s List to choose from that she would buy one from a woman who worked at Vegetarian Times and was taking the leap of faith with her boyfriend. My friend felt that the two of them finding each other was more than coincidence and instead a sign of hope.
