When I first started SeeingSigns.net, a dear friend sent a book called Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe by Laura Lynne Jackson. A favorite chapter called “Hearts and Playing Cards” shares the story of a woman who planned a once-in-a-lifetime vacation with her husband in Vietnam. When the time came for the trip, her mother was ailing but her father assured her that mom would be okay so off she and her husband flew to Vietnam. Soon after landing, she learned that mom passed away, but with a heavy heart she stayed on her trip. At a remote fishing village in the countryside, the woman came across scattered playing cards. She thought that if her loving mom were a playing card, she would have been the queen of hearts. She asked the tour guide about the significance of the playing cards and the guide said there wasn’t any meaning to it. During her travels, she ran across more playing cards in odd places and the third time noticed all the cards were facedown except the queen of hearts. The woman took that as a message from mom and relayed the sightings to her sisters. The queen of hearts became a sign that they all asked their mom to send, and soon everyone started having queen of hearts sightings too. “Got my heart!” was a common communication between family members. Seeing signs keeps us connected and top of mind whether we’re still here or have passed on. Inside the Signs book, my friend included a note: “Saw this book and immediately thought of you. Must have been a sign.” Awww!
