I put a load of towels into my washing machine — like I usually do — but when it was time for the water to drain out, it didn’t. Calling my plumber, because water was involved, he told me he could drain the washer but not fix it, because I needed a washing machine repair person. Doh! Online I looked for a washing machine repair place with a lot of great reviews. The next day the washer repairman told me I needed a new part for $200, and it would require $250 in labor. How much does a new washing machine cost anyway? Hmm. What year did I buy that washer? Hmm. I didn’t have the patience required to research and answer those questions in the moment. Besides, the washing machine repairman was here and told me that I’d be doing laundry again in an hour. The repairman replaced the part, asked me to give him a good online review and walked out the door. I ran to do a load of laundry. This time the water drained. But all over the floor. Ugh! I called the repairman back. He looked for the problem and determined it was an old hose. Didn’t he notice that in his first evaluation? Okay, that question pinged my first red flag. He continued tinkering. I went into the laundry room to see how he was doing and my washing machine was no longer in one piece. A second red flag up. He put the washer back together and said to leave it unplugged overnight and then do laundry in the morning. The third red flag appeared when I plugged in the washing machine and was greeted by green lights and devil number 666. A sign there would be no fixing this demon machine. I know repeating numbers, even 666, are angel numbers but I have a healthy dose of hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia. I consulted with my earlier post about 666, and it recommended that I assess my situation and choices. I chose to get that possessed washing machine out of my house. The new one arrives next week.
