Recently I was hiking with a friend who told me that when she was in college, one semester she didn’t have enough money for gas to get her all the way back to school. In a big leap of faith, she filled her tank, bought a lottery scratch-off ticket and got on the road. That scratch off paid for her gas, meals and a hotel stay that got her safely back to university. It reminded me of when I was a kid, and my family moved to Las Vegas. My dad didn’t have a job so every night, he went to the casino nearest to our rental apartment and played blackjack. He would win $100 and walk away. During the day, he looked for work followed by a trip to the casino. Every night, without fail, he won $100 and walked away. After about a month, he was gainfully employed and wouldn’t you know, he never had a string of luck like that again. How are these stories related to seeing signs? I’ve heard the saying “gambling is a losing game,” but in both these cases, winning was a sign they were on the right path. Personally, I don’t advocate for gaming, the odds are too stacked against me, but a lottery ticket every now and again — I’ll buy one if I see a sign.
